Robert "RJ" Batts, the teenage founder of Picklehead LLC, recently walked away with first place on America's Big Deal, a shoppable reality tv show. Batts went head-to-head with other hopeful entrepreneurs in Season 1, Episode 5, "Honoring Our Veterans", which aired November 11, 2021, on NBC. Additionally, Batts received a $100,000 offer from host Joy Mangano, and the opportunity to pitch his product, Tip Tough, on QVC and HSN network. At just 12 years old Batts came up with the idea of Tip Tough, a metal finger guard that prevents injuries in the kitchen after seeing the injuries his chef father received on the job. With guidance from Maryland SBDC consultant Tim Sherman, Batts was able to take his product idea from mind to market.
