As a 19-year-old immigrant to this country in 2009, there were times Manuel Zapata went without food and heat. Now his company Zapata Trucking Express transports freight of all kinds from coast to coast, and over 85 brokers call him when something needs transporting. But then came the pandemic. He contacted NH SBDC for help with a PPP loan, and he says it made it possible to save his company. He also says that with SBDC’s help he received loans for two additional trucks. With six trucks, once businesses were able to reopen in NH, Zapata Trucking was perfectly placed so clients like Walmart, Target, and UPS were suddenly on the roster.

Imagine you could literally have a thousand-foot view of a challenge. The solution would be visible more quickly and easily than when you are standing right in the middle of it all. Stefan Claesson's company Nearview is doing this for environmental science, getting a closer look at ecosystems by using aerial drones to help scientists, engineers, researchers, and environmental advocates study, understand, and respond to the world around us. Stefan notes, “I have a science and liberal arts background, but not much in business administration and development. I needed guidance out of the gate on building and managing my business, and SBDC advisors provided feedback and direction that was otherwise unavailable to me.”
