Downtown Grocery mixes the right ingredients to increase their bottom line

In response to COVID, Abby and Rogan Lechthaler of the Downtown Grocery in Ludlow VT turned the kitchen of their bistro into a takeout operation and the dining room into a home school for their two children. Loving the new mix of family and business, when they were allowed to re-open they reviewed their plan with their VtSBDC advisor and now they are happily doing a smaller seating that allows them to continue to maximize time with their family, serve their customers deliciously and safely, all while increasing the bottom line.

Albemarle Limousine grew from one to three companies during the pandemic

When COVID struck, Albemarle Limousine was blindsided and nearly crippled. “We immediately lost 90% of our revenue,” says owner Andrea Saathoff. She went to the SBDC to find ways to diversify. When she found a building with 10 auto bays where she could expand her ACE Auto Center Express business, she went back to SBDC for help. Next, SBDC helped her launch ACE Bicycle Charlottesville. “Riding bikes offered socially-distanced exercise, so our shop was very popular,” Andrea says. “Now all three businesses are in recovery. We have 60 employees, and everything is going gangbusters.” Andrea continues, “They helped us significantly through the pandemic. SBDC has all the resources needed to help a business succeed and grow.”
