After the first conversation I had with [Kelly Asbury], I believed in myself, like, 50,000 times more than I did going into the conversation. She made me believe it was possible.

Los Tacos Captures Tourism Dollars for the Community

After serving his country as a Marine and serving his community as a police officer, Cesar and his wife Heidi saw an opportunity to serve their community by offering authentic Mexican food in Glacier County. They turned to the SBDC with their idea and received training and assistance in business planning, financial projections, building and launching a website and loan packaging. The assistance allowed Los Tacos to receive a grant through the Glacier Port Authority which proved instrumental in helping them get started. Today they are capturing tourism dollars and will spend about $10,000 to purchase locally raised beef and pork and other supplies.

George Herman officially realizes his dream — Salas Fine Art

Mr. Herman is a Service-Disabled Veteran who served our country during the Vietnam War. “I am a product of the Albuquerque, New Mexico Public School System. After a tour in South Vietnam, I returned home to work in the semiconductor industry as a professional welder. I obtained seven federal welding certified certificates in ferrous and non-ferrous metals and in plastics. I brought that experience into the art world,” explained Mr. Herman. The Vietnam Veteran of America Chapter 318 has recently commissioned a life-size bronze statue honoring Vietnam Veterans that is displayed at the New Mexico Veteran’s Memorial in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

New York

Terence Carter, founder, Black Parakeetz Paint, Swig and Sing

Terrence Clarke consulted the Rockland SBDC in May 2019 with the dream of owning a karaoke bar in Nyack and sharing the “thrill” of karaoke with the community. Advisors Andrea Giraldo and Adi Isaeli worked with Terence to develop a plan for a karaoke bar with other entertainment — a paint and sip studio. A former business owner, Terence knew that he needed capitalization and help structuring his financials. After a successful presentation to the Community Capital of NY board, he was granted a loan for $150,000. With the funding and his own contribution, Terrence opened Black Parakeetz Paint, Swig and Sip, created eight new jobs and hired many local professionals.
